One and Done

Cameron is out, Parcells is in. I love that Wayne Huizenga got off his ass and reeled in the Big Tuna. Bill Parcells is what the Miami Dolphins needed in the first place. Granted he’s not coaching, but he brings knowledge to the ‘Phins that hasn’t been seen in almost a decade. He also brings with him most of the Dallas Cowboys staff. A staff that created a 13-3 NFC East Champion. Parcells has already brought in Jeff Ireland, the Cowboys former VP of College and Pro Scouting. Ireland’s signing alone speaks volumes for the 2008-2009 Dolphins season, because it was Ireland (along with Parcells) who brought together the likes of T.O., Tony Romo, Marion Barber and Julius Jones, along with the stout D that includes DeMarcus Ware and Roy Williams. If Parcells and Ireland can produce a team like that in Miami the Patriots will have stout competition in the AFC East and the Dolphins can be annual playoff contenders once again.

Ireland’s hiring comes in the wake of GM Randy Mueller’s firing. Muller was and always has been a joke in the NFL. The former Saint’s GM couldn’t build a team in New Orleans, his departure signaled change in the Crescent City and now the Saints are knocking on the door to the playoffs for the second year straight. Mueller’s tenure with Miami never produced a winning season, and it was Mueller who was responsible for the Wes Welker trade to the Patriots, arguably Miami’s most ridiculous trade ever.

And finally Cam Cameron. His firing could be as questionable as his hiring. Cameron is a great coordinator, but a horrible head coach. Granted injuries and poor management decisions plagued Cameron’s roster all year, but a coach who garners no respect from his players cannot lead a team, and when your team leaders (i.e. Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas) disagree with your coaching decisions then you’ve got a team that disagrees with your coaching decisions. I like the move, I’m just curious to see who the Dolphins will land in the new role.
